Valerie Hernandez Matias of Puerto Rico won the Miss International 2014 pageant held in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday.
Matias became emotional as the Miss International crown and cape were passed to her by last year’s winner, the Philippines’ Bea Rose Santiago.
“I feel great, this is an honor for me. This is the second crown for Puerto Rico. One of the most beautiful experiences I ever had in my life,” she said.
“I appreciate every person in this stage, the other delegates… Oh my god… It’s an amazing experience, I can’t even… I’m sorry,” she added, crying tears of joy.
Miss Colombia won second runner-up in the pageant, followed by Miss Thailand, Miss United Kingdom and Miss Finland.
Special awards were given to Miss Colombia (Miss Friendship and Miss Best Dresser), Miss India (Miss Internet Beauty), Miss Indonesia (Miss National Costume) and Miss France (Miss Perfect Body).
The country’s representative, Bianca Guidotti, ended her Miss International journey after failing to make it to the pageant’s semi-final round.
